A Message from Father Rey

Saint Joseph Catholic Church sits in the heart of the West End of Cincinnati, Ohio. It has been in nearly the same location since 1846 totaling over 170 years as a beacon of hope and love for the community and all that enter its doors. As a church, we have a long and great history within the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. That history is filled with many, large and small. We have experienced good times and suffering. God has strengthened this community to endure that our future is safe and secure.

The challenges we face today are the challenges of many parishes. It is costly to maintain our physical plant; our again church, rectory, school and convent. The cost of heat and electricity continues to rise, and we have an obligation to provide a safe environment for those who work for us. We are asking you to help us meet these challenges.

As we look to the further, we reflect on the many strengths of St. joseph Catholic Church. Among many we could name, we think especially of:

Our Vibrant History Our Spirit to Serve

Our many Active Ministries & A Strong Sense of the Spirit in our Worship

The great good that St. Joseph has been able to accomplish is only possible through your support. Thank you for your faithful stewardship of God’s gifts, and please consider an increase in your offerings to stabilize our Sunday collections, and help us to ensure that St. Joseph Catholic Church will continue to be a Tower of Faith for another 170 years.

The Legacy of “His Grace” Reverence Clarence Joseph Rivers Professional Liturgist

In the late 1950’s, Father Clarence Rivers, the first African American, ordained priest, for the diocese of Cincinnati, was appointed as the assistant priest of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. It was here at Saint Joseph that Father Rivers began a movement to bring riches of the African American religious and music tradition. This movement is still growing and flourishing in Catholic Parishes across the country.

A Strong Sense of the Spirit in Our Worship

The Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives, and the liturgies convey this reality. Our Sunday Masses are joyful celebrations where no one is a stranger and all are welcomed.

Our music glorifies Our Lord Jesus, the center of our joy, and many come to join us in our worship because they feel the power of the Spirit as we offer thanks to God.

Our Spirit of Service

The church and school take pride in our outreach to the community with social events, and service to Christ in our midst in the guise of the window, the orphan, and those who hunger and thirst spiritually and physically. We are proud of our rich legacy of educating children and thriving Alumni Association which continues to promote our mission, while raising funds to assist in many years.
